Today I saw on channel 19 a clip from 96' with Harry Frye, Tom Turner, and Jim Riggs. I swear folks, to hear those guys talk it brings a tear to my eye. Riggs spoke about what it is like to be a coach and how coaches experience every emotion possible in life. I swear there are some good folks in the world.

It kills me every time I miss something like this..
Now missing the Coeburn '91 highlight footage was one thing, but to miss something like this just angers me like crazy. [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]
To be completely honest, I don't think I ever got to hear Tom Turner say a single word... same could be said for many other coaches - past and present - in our area.
I do have an old tape with Coach Riggs and a bunch of other guys sitting around talking, however .. as well as a tape featuring Julius/Thomas Jones and their rise to fame. (Though at the time of the video, Julius was at ND and Thomas was at UVA)

In a twist on that thought, some people would have thought it hard to hear a word from him. To be such an imposing figure, he was suprisingly soft-spoken. There was no mistaking times when he wanted to get his point across, however.

He was very soft spoken... however as a player, you never said "huh" or "what" during a convo....You knew better, lol. Just nod your head, and agree, even if you have no clue what was just said, haha..
On the field,during practice or a game, he sounded like a completely diffrent person though... You understood everything he was telling you, I promise you that much.
There will never be another coach like Coach Turner. Seeing how much of an impact he had on students, players, and the town of Appalachia is what first inspired me to go back to school to teach, and coach football. I just hope I can have half the impact that he's had, and I'll consider myself to be very successful.
A guy I used to work with for years from PV brought me a copy of that several years ago. Was great to watch and listen to them all talk.

One coach i am proud to have passed some time with is Chief Colobro. he came down every summer to coach qbs during camp. Chief was a riot in the locker room and on the field. and he sure knew x's and o's - it was awsome watching him break dowm qb mechanics with the young guys.
Harry Fry was always amazing to talk to. i remember him saying that GC could win state in 1996 with just the players that went to the Methodist church. coaches like that are one in a million.
